The Machinery Directive, also commonly known as the Machinery 'Safety' Directive, applies witha few notable exceptions to all machinery. Machinery is commonlydefined as an assembly oflinked parts or components, at least one of which moves, joined together for a specificapplication. It can also refer to an assembly of machines which, in order to achieve the same end,are arranged and controlled so that they function as an integral whole.Any machine has thepotential to fall within the scope of the MSD and the vast majority of manufacturers ofmachinery sold or used within the European Union need to ensure that their products complywith its requirements. Manufacturers who do so can affix a valid CE Marking to their products to
